DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. The Resources Department, created in June 2018, is responsible for providing central services and is comprised of three pillars; Human Resources & Administration Unit, Financial Resources Unit and Organizational Development & Support Services.

For our department, which continues to evolve, we are looking for a well-rounded, experienced and committed individual to be our next:

Grant and Controlling Officer (80-100 %)

Location: Geneva

Starting date: April 2020

Duration: Permanent

The role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, this interesting new position will be instrumental in monitoring and improving management reporting of financial performance, enhancing donor grant management and cashflow processes and improving the internal control environment at DCAF headquarters and overseas field offices.

Some travel to overseas field office locations may be required.

This role involves dealing with stakeholders throughout the organization, including senior management.

Key areas of operation:

  • Donor grant management, including assisting business divisions with budget preparation, reporting and cash flow analysis

  • Prepare monthly reports, variance analysis and trend analysis

  • Regularly monitor divisional and central financial performance

  • Work directly with divisions to improve visualization of financial reporting

  • Coordinate with the Finance Operational Controller to develop procedures to enhance overseas field office internal controls

  • Facilitate standardization and streamlining of processes and procedures

  • Assist in preparing annual financial statements

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience with non-profit organizations in grant management, internal control, budgeting and forecasting

  • Relevant degree in Finance; Swiss CPA, CFA or ACCA

  • Excellent analytical & critical thinking skills

  • Show pride in work and in achievements; demonstrate professional competence and mastery of subject matter

  • Able to handle multiple and sometimes competing priorities

  • Proven well-rounded, team player, with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong IT skills; strong MS Office skills in particular strong Excel modelling (pivots, formulae); excellent knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Navision

  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; French a plus

  • Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite
