The Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. For our Operations Middle East and North Africa Division, we are looking for a highly dedicated professional to be our next:
Project Assistant – Middle East (100 %)
Location: Geneva, with occasional travel to the region
Starting date: 1 November or as per agreement
Duration: 24 month fixed-term contract, with possibility of extension
The role
The Project Assistant will support the Middle East Desk in the development, follow-up and coordination of activities in one or more countries in the Middle East.
Key areas of operation:
Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of security and justice sectors reform projects in the Middle East region
Conduct research on issues relevant to security and justice sector governance and reform in the Middle East
Draft quality narrative and financial proposals and reports , within established deadlines
Assist the editing and layout of publications
Contribute to the organization of workshop and events
Carry out logistical and administrative tasks for the smooth running of the Middle East desk
Your experience
University degree in political sciences, international relations, law, development, security studies or related field
Some prior experience in project and grant management, for an international organization would be an asset
Excellent command of English; knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset
Capacity to write and edit reports in English for publication
Strong communication and organisational skills
Cultural sensitivity, ideally familiarity with the Arab world
Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite
