Switzerland: Research Assistant, Gender and Security Division

Headquartered in Geneva, DCAF has a global portfolio and employs over 170 highly qualified international staff. The organization is currently seeking a dynamic individual to serve as Research Assistant (RA) in the Gender and Security Division (activity level 100%). The selected candidate will support the implementation and monitoring of research and policy projects related to gender equality in security sector governance and reform.

This position requires knowledge in gender and security, interpersonal skills, and good understanding of security policy. The post is based in Geneva with a one-year contract renewable to an additional year. Only candidates with valid work permit or Swiss/ EU citizenship are eligible.

Main responsibilities

· Review concept notes, policy briefs and notes, implementation plans, and other documents as directed

· As part of a team, co-design and co-organize activities with partners, including policy initiatives, training, conferences, meetings, assessments, research projects, etc.

· Provide research support to members of the team

· Edit publications and supervise consultants

· Carry out administrative responsibilities and assist in event organisation

· Liaise with various stakeholders

· Participate in internal meetings, take notes and draft internal reports

Education, competencies and experience

· Master’s degree in international affairs, public policy, law, governance, development, security studies, gender studies, or related disciplines.

· Good knowledge of the gender and security legal normative framework; familiarity with international policy discussions regarding gender and security, as well as security sector governance and reform.

· Good writing and editing skills.

· Fluency in English and French, with other languages a plus.

Desirable:

· Professional experience in the field of gender equality, or women, peace and security.

· Experience supporting projects on gender equality and security, women, peace and security, and related fields.

Personal competences and attitude

· Excellent social and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to remain efficient within rapidly changing circumstances, to adapt positively to new tasks, responsibilities or people.

· Diplomacy, tact, discretion, and an impeccable record for integrity and professional ethical standards.

Starting date: 1 October 2017 or mutually agreed-upon date.
