For our Sub-Saharan Africa Division, we are seeking a dynamic, organized and responsible individual to support our portfolio of projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Project Officer– SAHEL Programme (100%)
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Starting date: February 2020
Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
Responsibility
Under the supervision of the Head of Division, the Project Officer Sahel supports country teams for Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso to implement the regional project as well as the national project in Mali.
Scope of the assignment
More specifically, he / she is responsible for ensuring the following tasks:
Support the country teams and the Sahel Project Coordination Unit in Geneva in the development and the revision of the quarterly and annual workplan (with the associated budgets);
In close collaboration with the country teams and the Sahel Project Coordination Unit in Geneva, prepare the Terms of Reference for regional level activities and monitor the implementation at field level;
Provide ongoing budget monitoring of project budgets and payments in close coordination with the Finance Officer and project lead;
Contribute to the recruitment and preparation of consultant’s and expert’s terms of reference and contracts;
Ensure that the activities are correctly documented, including with photos and videos, and that all the relevant documentation is stored in Sharepoint;
Contribute to the drafting and documentation of periodic reports on the progress of activities, as well as activity reports, including the regular updating of indicators and hypothesis, in consultation with the Country Teams and Team lead.
Ensure the respect for deadlines and contribute to enhancing the quality of SSAD’s reporting to donors;
Provide facts, figures, a short description of activities, and “success stories” for communication and information purposes (Monthly Newsletter, Sahel Web site; Internal DCAF Staff Newsletter…);
Ensure the exchange of information and knowledge between the country teams in the Sahel;
Support the preparation and carrying out of research work within the framework of project activities;
Contribute to the regular review the DCAF SSAD strategy in the Sahel and support the development of new initiatives at country and regional level;
Provide regular inputs to update the DCAF RBM system of reporting;
Ensure a smooth collaboration between the country teams and the administration at HQ level (Finance, human resources…);
Facilitate the collaboration and exchange of information with the other departments in DCAF.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Peace, Conflict Management; Political, Science; Criminology; Anthropology; Sociology; Law; Diplomacy and International relations; Public Administration; Security Studies; Military and Police Sciences;
At least 3-5 years’ experience in the field of project management, research analysis/ evaluation, records and information management.
Required competencies sand skills
Proficiency in written and spoken French and English
Proven excellent analytical, report writing and organizational skills
Excellent research, report writing and documentation skills
Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Good interpersonal skills including good coordination and effective working relations with stakeholders
Excellent planning and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications; The knowledge of “Sharepoint” is an advantage.
Creativity in the presentation of information through use of graphical, pictorial or other appropriate communication means
Demonstrable competence in Time Management
Knowledge of Research Methodologies
Knowledge of Best Practices and trends in Research and Analysis
Confidentiality, integrity and professionalism are displayed in the execution of duties and personal conduct.
Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite
